An extensive linked ski area with modern lifts and classic Austrian après-ski

Skiing and snowboarding in Saalbach

The Ski Circus One of the largest ski areas

With five ski areas now included in the 'Ski Circus', the skiing will feel like it's endless! Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Leogang, Vorderglemm and Fieberbrunn are all linked, so you can complete a circuit tour covering 65km and 12,400m in altitude. Saalbach is also now linked with Zell am See, providing another 77km of runs.

Gondola lift in Saalbach

Modern lifts Fast & comfortable lifts

The lifts are some of the best in Europe, with modern gondolas and large chairlifts, which move skiers and snowboarders quickly and efficiently around the mountains, meaning limited queuing. Some of the chairlifts also have the luxury of heated seats, making the ride up to the top of the mountain even more pleasant!

Enjoying the apres-ski in Saalbach

Great après-ski Austrian après at its best!

With over 60 cosy huts on the mountain and plenty of bars in the villages, it's never a dull moment in the Saalbach valley! Sit and enjoy an Aperol Spritz on a sun terrace, or head into one of the many bars or clubs jumping with live music - It's always great fun and the perfect way to round off a day on the mountain.

Resort Overview

Saalbach is one of our most popular resorts. It's always the first to sell out and it’s easy to see why - Stunning mountain vistas, impressive snow quality from December through to April, and a vast network of wide and well-groomed pistes linked to the other valleys of the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski area by a hyper-efficient lift system.

Fast, modern lifts

Some of the chairlifts even have drop-down canopies and heated seats to keep you warm on your way back up! The slopes are perfect for intermediate skiers and snowboarders wanting to progress, whilst the nursery runs and easy blues are good for beginners.

Extensive and varied ski area

More advanced skiers and snowboarders will love the challenging terrain around Fieberbrunn, which now hosts a stop of the Freeride World Tour, a global extreme ski and snowboard contest. Saalbach and Hinterglemm also host Alpine Ski World Cup races every year.

Tobogganing in Saalbach

Non-Ski Activities

It's easy to get between Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Vorderglemm via the regular local buses which go between the villages. This gives you the opportunity to explore the villages on your doorstep and enjoy the wonderful trails and tracks leading upcto the mountain huts.

Evening activities include sleigh rides and tobogganing. For a great night out on the staff night off, our Resort Manager can arrange a trip to the Spielberghaus - You are transported by piste-basher and taken up the mountain to a restaurant where you are treated to a hearty meal and the chance to play some games of Hammerschlagen (the nails game) before returning home with the help of a toboggan!

Alternatively, why not take a day-trip over to Zell am See to visit the quaint shops and restaurants and take in the views from the banks of lake Zell. Also visit St Hippolyte's church, which is one of the oldest buildings in the region.

Saalbach Village

Saalbach is a pretty Austrian village with narrow pedestrianised streets centred around a historic church. There is plenty of non-skiing related fun to be had during your week in the resort, including bowling, ice-skating, tobogganing and sleigh rides.

Saalbach is one of Europe’s top resorts for après-ski, which starts early in the afternoon. From around 3pm, locals and visitors can be found singing and stomping their ski boots to Austrian pop and rock classics in the Goat Stall, a buzzing bar at the foot of the mountain. Ask one of our ski hosts to take you there.

Or to take advantage of Saalbach’s 'Happy Hour', which starts at 3:30pm, head to Bobby’s Pub - a pub sports heaven with pool, darts, bowling and a buzzing atmosphere.

But don’t worry if you fancy a more tranquil evening, as Saalbach has plenty of quiet enclaves and over 60 restaurants to choose from. We recommend you take advantage of dining out on the staff day off.

Restaurants

On the mountain you will be spoilt for choice with the best mountain huts to stop at for lunch. Our ski hosts can't wait to show you their favourites, and every day offers new surprises and culinary delights. AsitzBräu, Rosswaldhütte and Wieseralm are some of our favourites.

In Saalbach village there is also an endless list of great restaurants to visit. Del Rossi offers hearty meals and mighty steaks and is always a hit with its warm and cosy atmosphere.

If you're after something more Austrian, head to the Schattbergstube, where you can expect to be wowed by Tyrolian classics such as Wiener Schnitzel, Käsespätzle and Tiroler Gröstl, to name but a few.

DJ in Saalbach

Bars

Where to begin! On the mountain you have some of the best après-ski in the world with the legendary Goaßstall (the 'Goat Stall', with real goats!) in Hinterglemm, or the Hinterhag in Saalbach, with live music and lots of dancing. Happy Hour begins at the Berger Alm at 3:30pm - Be sure to arrive promptly, as space on the terrace is limited.

Back in the resort you can head to Bauer's Schi-Alm at the base of the home run, where you can find great music and dance along in your ski boots to some après-ski classics! Spitzbub offers a great outdoors area and here you can catch Saalbach legend 'Spacey' performing, which always provides an afternoon of laughter.

Please note that some establishments in Saalbach do not accept card payments and only accept cash.

Fabulous chalet and skiing experience with Ski Miquel

We went with Ski Miquel half board. The chalet team led by Carol were fantastic hosts. The food breakfast and dinner was all excellent culminating in one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. Chalet always tidy and clean. Great pre and post dinner lounge making new friends and acquaintances. The ski guiding was excellent for a first timer to Saalbach.

Great chalet, perfect location, fabulous week!

Once again we had such a fun holiday with Ski Miquel all due to the fantastic team and chalet. Our 4th time to this well located and comfortable chalet and it certainly won't be our last. Carol as always was on top form ensuring everyone was well looked after and always dealt with the most random guest issues (and us in general) with patience and a smile. She brings a lot of fun to the chalet whilst maintaining high standards and we very much appreciate her. Special mention has to go to Lorenzo for the food which was the best (by far) we have ever experienced in our now 5 years with Ski Miquel. A really noticeable step up, with good sized portions and super flavours. Everyone in the chalet was commenting on it and tearing ourselves away from the fun we were having at apres ski was always worth it for the lovely dinners. We spent the week ski guiding with Jake which we also thoroughly enjoyed. Again a great balance of fun whilst ensuring we were all safe and knew where we were going. Finally a big thank you also to Cara and Sophie who were also a credit to your company through excellent service and high standards across the week.

Spot on, full ski package holiday!

A well run Chalet, with a lovely team lead by Carol. Lorenzo, Jake, Cara and Sophie are all charming. Food was delicious, service cheerful, wine with dinner plentiful. Location great with 5 minute walk to first lift. We used the lift station storage but you can use the chalet boot room. Super ski guiding 6 days round Leogang, Hinterglemm, Saalbach, and Zell am See. The skiing is varied with lots of wide blue and red runs, some tree lined too. The chalet was warm, and well looked after with very comfortable beds and plenty of modern storage in the bedrooms. We would definitely return.

The whole Ski Miquel package was excellent

This was our first Ski Miquel holiday for myself and 15 year old son and certainly won't be our last, we loved the personal service of the chalet and the wonderful all round support from the team, the food was delicious and plentiful. Our room was spacious with plenty of storage available, we enjoyed many social evenings in the comfortable lounge bar with the other guests and hosts. Location is fabulous being close to the ski lift. The ski guiding was fantastic (especially Amalia) as they could show us the best pistes and restaurants on the mountains, also able to accommodate everyone's different abilities on the slopes, always happy to help or give advice about every aspect of the holiday, nothing seemed too much trouble for them and it was a relaxed welcome atmosphere.

Wonderful Ski holiday for our group

Well – after all the stresses of PCR tests, mask wearing and other Covid related challenges – it was soooooooooooo worth it! The guiding was such an amazing bonus and meant that we saw so much of the ski area. The food was great and abundant, as was the wine! Everyone was happy with their rooms and the staff were excellent and very friendly. We chose to store our skis down by the lift which saved lugging them back and forth everyday. The run up to the trip was fraught with concerns, but our trip to Hotel Christina and Saalbach was more than worth it. Thank you to Carol and your lovely team for making us so welcome and sorry to be going back home at the end!

Great half term skiing

Great to return to the Christina again in Feb 20. Well looked after by Carol and the team, both in the chalet and whilst guiding on the mountain. This chalet is well run, clean, well located and with great food and service. Particularly enjoyed the company of a fantastic group of fellow guests. Hope to return soon.

The perfect hotel for a chalet style holiday

This was my first Ski Miquel chalet ski holiday and it was just wonderful. Carol is a very professional, kind and helpful manager as well as a considerate ski guide. Together with her team they provide an excellent service. The food was wonderful, the staff couldn't do enough for you, the place was comfortable and warm, the walking distance to the centre and main lift only a few minutes. We had Lewis as our ski guide and that really made our week. He was just excellent. The ski area is beautiful and large, so having someone capable, caring and professional guiding you and explaining how to best ski the slopes made such a difference. Lunch was always pre-booked and we had so many laughs and fun throughout. The dinner with tobogganing back down was a great night out - all in all it really was a fabulous week and highly recommendable.

Another Brilliant week with Ski Miquel!

A group of 26 of us have just returned from a brilliant week in Saalbach. The resort itself is great, it has a really big ski area with lots of blues and reds, nice new lifts with heated seats and toilets at most stations! Loads of nice restaurants up the mountain and plenty of choice to apres! The ski guiding is my favourite thing about Ski Miquel, it’s so well organised and makes the day completely stress free, Carol and Lewis booked our lunches so we never had an issue getting a table which as a large group was ideal! Carol and Lewis were great too, we had a really good time with them and lots of laughs but at the same time they were very professional and organised. The music quiz was a highlight of the week for us! Food was very tasty and good sized portions! We had a few dietary requirements in the group which were all handled without any issues. I would happily go back :)

Excellent week in Saalbach

Stayed at the Christina for a week in March. Excellent Chalet, very good food and a short walk to the main lifts out of Saalbach. Saalbach is a top resort for skiing, a huge area, good piste grooming, fast, efficient lifts and lots of good bars and restaurants on the mountain. Will be going back.

Second trip with Ski Miquel

This was our second time with Ski Miquel and yet again this excellent formula managed to tick all our boxes. The Chalet was clean and comfortable; food was excellent and although there was a set menu the Staff were prepared to flex it for some of our party, who didn't like fish. Ski guiding was a must for us, as the Saalbach area is very extensive, and this allowed us to enjoy it without the need to constantly look at a map. Some great nights in the chalet with an excellent crowd and cheap bar, doing quizzes, musical charades and the nightly awards from Liam. Thanks to Carol, Harvey, Lucy, Rachel and Milan.

Another amazing trip with Ski Miquel

Stayed at the Chalet-Hotel Christina through Ski Miquel 17-23 March – our fifth time with this operator. The Christina is in a perfect location, 5 minutes from main Gondola but away from the hustle and bustle of pretty Saalbach. The rooms/ensuites were spacious and well appointed most with a balcony. The food and wine was of its usual high standard and the bar prices the best in Saalbach. Above all it was the Ski Miquel staff that made our trip amazing, they all went the extra mile to bring the group together: The guiding is second to none, taking us to gorgeous places for morning coffee and lunch (table pre-booked). In the evenings our host Carol kept us informed of the next day’s plan, organised quizzes and even an hysterical awards ceremony on the last night. All we had to do was ski, eat, drink and enjoy!! Exceptional value for money. So a massive thanks to Carole, Harvey, Lucy, Hannah and Milan.

Best chalet holiday EVER!

The chalet is perfectly located, just 5 minutes from the ski lift. The chalet itself was brilliant, lovely dining room, large modern lounge with a bar, which encouraged guests to be social before and after dinner. The food was delicious, all three courses, breakfast and afternoon tea, good sized portions too. And lastly the chalet team led by Harvey and Carol were UNBELIEVABLE – friendly, fun, knowledgeable, great hosting in the hotel and on the slopes. Brilliantly organised, knowing exactly how to add some magic to a ski holiday. Heartily recommend the chalet and Ski Miquel. Thank you so much.

Fabulous!

We stayed in this Chalet with Ski Miquel and had a fabulous time. The chalet has a great location nice and close to the lifts and the town. The chalet is well looked after with a comfortable dining room and spacious lounge / bar with plenty of room for everyone. Ski Miquel were great! We took full advantage of the ski guiding and saw loads of the mountain thanks to Carol and Harvey. Evening meals were plentiful and tasty, and the cheeseboard a lovely way to finish off. Post dinner, the bar was always entertaining meaning we didn't ever venture back out as fun was to be had on the doorstep! A huge thank you to Carol and the team for the wonderful week. Nothing but total praise for everything!!
