Skiing in Lauterbrunnen

Resort overview

Lauterbrunnen offers everything guests would expect from a holiday to Switzerland - Iconic views, chocolate-box villages and incredible skiing, all at great value and without the usual Swiss price tag!

Incredible scenery

The Lauterbrunnen valley is world famous for being one of the most impressive valleys in the Alps, with its 72 thundering waterfalls (the most famous being visible from just behind our own chalet-hotel), which give it an almost fairytale-like atmosphere. In fact, this is where the famous author JRR Tolkien took his inspiration for the creation of Rivendell in the 'Lord of the Rings' series.

World-class skiing

Enjoy the stunning scenery from your warm train carriage up to Wengen, which has plenty of excellent runs for intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Ski beneath the majestic Eiger and enjoy long, wide runs in Grindelwald, or take on the challenging pistes of Mürren, easily accessed via high-speed cable car.

Lots of the skiing is at high altitude, so the snow stays good throughout the season, and you can also ski back to the village from Mürren, where snow cannons keep the pistes in good condition even late in the season.

We love..

Breathtaking scenery

Jagged backdrops that include the majesty of the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau peaks, which provide some of the best mountain views in Europe! It really feels like big-mountain skiing, yet on wide-open and family-friendly runs.

Modern lift and train network

The Swiss certainly know how to build a railway and that extends to the lifts as well, which move skiers and snowboarders efficiently around the ski area. You will also find a surprising lack of crowds on the slopes.

Great value

With the choice of Mürren and Wengen, you get big Swiss resorts with excellent value by staying in Lauterbrunnen, and you can also take our ski host's advice on the most reasonable mountain lunch spots.

Brunch at the Piz Gloria

This is the revolving restaurant at the top of the Schilthorn, which was famously featured in the James Bond classic movie ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’. Try the great-value brunch option whilst looking out over the epic mountain ranges.

Equipment Hire

The local Sport shop have been providing ski and snowboard rental for the past 15 years.

As well as equipment rental, they also have a great range of skis, snowboards and sports clothing for sale.

They are also able to service your own equipment, if necessary, so you can guarantee it is in tip-top condition before you hit the slopes.

EXTRAS PRICES FOR LAUTERBRUNNEN

Ski School

You can rely on the local Wengen ski school to bring your ability on to the next level. Group lessons are a great way of meeting people who share the same passion for skiing or snowboarding, and who are of a similar ability level to you as well.

Private lessons offer the ultimate learning experience, giving you the flexibility of time and place for your teaching session and the full attention of your instructor. Whether you are a complete beginner or a confident skier/snowboarder just looking to brush up on your technique, a private lesson with one of their instructors will build your range of skills and let you enjoy more of the mountain environment.

First cliff walk in Grindelwald

Walking & Hiking

The Lauterbrunnen valley offers a fantastic variety of walks and hikes, all easily accessible on foot or via the mountain train network.

Jump on the train and head up the highest railway in Europe to the Jungfraujoch, also known as the 'Top of Europe', where there is an observatory situated at 3,454m overlooking the eternal snows of the Aletsch Glacier.

Or you can head over to Grindelwald and brave the cliff walk whilst enjoying the magnificent views of the valley.

First Flyer zip-wire

Non-ski Activities

Do you want to experience the thrill of being in the mountains, but not on the ski slopes? Why not head over to First and have a go on the 800m 'First Flyer' zip-wire, which is also included on your area lift pass.

You can also visit the historic tourist town of Interlaken, sitting between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. With the boom of tourism in the late 1800's, Interlaken became the centre for the rich and famous to travel around the Swiss Alps. Visit the monastery and castle, and there is also the Rugenbräu Brewery for those who would like to see where the local beer is made.

If you want to try an alternative winter sport then you can ask our Resort Manager to arrange an evening of curling for you - All equipment is provided, and it's a great evening out and a lot of fun!

Lauterbrunnen village

Lauterbrunnen Village

The towering rock faces of the Lauterbrunnen valley inspired JRR Tolkien to create Middle Earth for his 'Lord of the Rings' series and they make for a wonderfully cinematic backdrop.

Lauterbrunnen is an idyllic place to spend some time. Less a haunt for the late-night party crowd and more somewhere to have a pleasant wander for a drink or two and a nice meal on the chalet staff night off. You can also take the mountain train up to Wengen if you want to explore a bit further, which has a busier after-hours scene.

Restaurants

The chalet staff night off gives you the chance to sample the local cuisine - There's a bigger choice than you might think, and a price range for all pockets. Try the classic Swiss hospitality at the Hotel Silberhorn, or the Weidstübli restaurant down at the campsite, which is excellent, and you certainly won't leave hungry!

You can also take the train up to Wengen, where the choice is significant, and there's no rush to get back as the train runs until late in the evening and is included on your lift pass.

The Danish-run Horner Pub close to the Chalet Rosa is gaining in reputation for serving well-priced good food, and there are other more simple establishments along the main street if you want a decent but economic meal.

Bars

Whilst Lauterbrunnen may not be a major centre for après-ski, there is still plenty going on, and there are many cafes with views over the valley where you can sit on an afternoon and watch the world go by.

If you're looking for something a little more lively then head to the Horner Pub, which is only a short walk from the Chalet Rosa, for a game of darts or even a spot of dancing! If you're lucky, you might even get to hear the locals doing some yodeling, or the base-jumpers talking about their adventures of the day.

Reviews

Great week in Chalet Rosa Lauterbrunnen

A fantastic week at Chalet Rosa in Lauterbrunnen. We were really well looked after by Dean, Caitlyn and the chalet team, both on and off the slopes with great food all week and a fun atmosphere in the chalet with a nice bunch of people. The rooms are nice and it's a five minute walk to the train/cable car in Lauterbrunnen where the ski lockers are. Would definitely go back!

A beautiful stay with Ski Miquel

A lovely week in the Swiss Alps. Was thoroughly looked after by Dean and the ski team at Ski Miquel. Cosy chalet, tasty meals, en suite double bedroom, ski tea (apres). Amazing snow also!

An outstanding ski holiday

Superb week!! Great hotel with fantastic service from Dean and his team. Nothing was ever too much trouble and their local knowledge meant that everything we asked could be answered. The hotel, the food, the service, the location, the ease of travel around the resort were all outstanding. This is a great place to visit and after 20 years of ski holidays, this is the best we have had.

Fantastic Ski Week in Lauterbrunnen with Ski Miquel

I’ve just returned from an incredible week skiing in Lauterbrunnen, and I can honestly say Ski Miquel delivered a holiday that exceeded every expectation. The whole experience felt effortless, friendly, and brilliantly organised from start to finish.
Our ski guide, Dean was outstanding – knowledgeable, patient, and great fun to ski with. He knew the area inside out and always found the best routes and conditions each day. Whether you were confident or still finding your feet, he made everyone feel included and supported.
Back at the chalet, the host and chef were fantastic. The chalet was warm, welcoming, and had that cosy Alpine charm that makes you instantly relax after a day on the slopes. The food was exceptional every evening – hearty, delicious, and clearly made with real care. Nothing was too much trouble for the team, and the atmosphere they created made the whole group feel like one big ski family.
Lauterbrunnen itself is stunning – dramatic cliffs, snowy peaks, and easy access to the Jungfrau ski area. A perfect base for a winter escape.
A brilliant holiday all round. Great skiing, great people, great service. I wouldn’t hesitate to book with Ski Miquel again.

Great experience at Chalet Rosa!

Great experience at Chalet Rosa. Great location, great food and great staff. Never an issue too big with all the staff being helpful. Was a really relaxing chalet after long days of skiing.
Thanks to Dean, Caitlin, Tilly, Imogen and Dan for a great week!

Lovely chalet in great location

A great week with Ski Miquel. Lovely chalet with good sized rooms and excellent food. Hiking opportunities for non skiers were very good.

Wengen with Ski Miquel

Travelled with ski Miquel staying at hotel silberhorn. Skiing at Wengen and Murren. Train service to wengen/grindelwald very scenic and enjoyable and although therefore not ski in/ski out very atmospheric in a Swiss way. The area is beautiful incorporating north Face of the Eiger and the top of the jungfrau (highest spot in Europe,) dinner every night at ski miquel's chalet Rosa with great staff and fellow skiiers finished off the day perfectly. Thoroughly recommend Ski Miquel who have some wonderful locations. Can't wait to try another!

Superb Chalet Rosa

Fantastic chalet in the town of Lauterbrunnen, the staff could not be more helpful and the food excellent.

Lovely chalet

We had a great week. This is a really lovely chalet, comfortable room, really tasty food. Dean and the team were great hosts. The setting is great for skiing in both Wengen and Murren. Travelling to the slopes by train makes a nice change. It’s not far to the station and there is a free ski locker there.

Skiing with Ski Miquel

We had an amazing time travelling with Ski Miquel. You couldn't fault the experience and I would love to travel with them again.

Unreal week

Incredible staff who made the week! Loved the ski guiding and all very well organised. Great food would definitely go back. No problems with wifi, rooms and hot water, etc. Horner Bar was ideal and super close. Great new year!

A Fabulous Christmas

A great stay over Christmas week with the efficient Ski Miquel team.
Helen and Tabi guided us each morning, either on the Murren or Wengen side depending on conditions. Emma and Tilly stayed behind to tidy and clean the chalet, while Nick prepared our tasty meals and cakes in the kitchen.
The resort ran like clockwork with the trains or cable car always running to time. For the non-skiers there was plenty of walking in the valley.
We were able to leave skis and boots in the ski locker at the lift station, or make use of the boot room back at the chalet.
The team worked hard to provide us all with a fun, relaxed Christmas.
Thank you

We want to go back to the mountain!

We had a great week at Chalet Rosa with the Ski Miquel team - really excellent ski hosting and great food prepared by the kitchen every day! The train service is seamless and you have easy access to the train station and a secure locker room there for your skis and boots. Ski hire is efficient and good quality and the ski area is famous and not too busy. An additional positive note were the other guests in the chalet - all engaging and happy!

A great place for a ski trip

An excellent quality chalet hosted by a Ski Miquel team who cared. A great idea to have a locker at the railway station for guests to store their ski gear, avoiding the uncomfortable trudge with equipment each morning and evening.
Food was excellent too.

A Ski Miquel chalet

We chose Chalet Rosa as a place to stay when we booked our annual ski holiday with Ski Miquel. Our best ski holiday yet! Chalet was clean, warm and conveniently located. Our bedroom had a wonderful view over the village and valley. The Ski Miquel staff were just brilliant without exception. Our only disappointment was having to leave for home - the week went so quickly. I would certainly recommend it as a place to stay for skiing and would be ideal too, for a summer vacation.

Fantastic Ski Miquel holiday ! 😊

We had a fantastic skiing holiday at chalet Rosa with Ski Miquel. The team at the chalet were all superb, the food was delicious and the service was excellent.
They helped to make a wonderful holiday. The chalet itself was nice, clean and comfortable with good communal areas. There is a short walk to the train station with access to the Wengen and Murren ski areas. The scenery is fabulous, very rugged and amazing to be able to ski the famous Laberhorn piste. The pistes when we visited were quiet and there were no lift queues at all. Ski hire was excellent quality from the nearby Intersport. Overall a fantastic Ski Miquel holiday. 😊

Top Holiday - Ski Miquel Lauterbrunnen

Fantastic ski holiday to Chalet Rosa in Lauterbrunnen under the excellent care of Ski Miquel. Chalet was great, and the staff couldn’t do more to keep us fed, watered and generally very happy! The food was amazing thanks to chef Lee and his attention and kindness to our two little ones (5 and 7) went well above and beyond (cake decorations, kids choice of food, all round entertainer and pretty good boarder too). Dirk led the team extremely well and the chalet girls were all top. The whole experience was very friendly as our families all became friends. As for the resort - the views cannot be beaten and the ski runs, bars, food and general conditions were excellent. Even the trains were fun! Would definitely recommend.
